DRAG CAPRI

I bought a ford capri as a roller in 1997. The car sat till the end of 99 then we started to build it up to go racing. we used a motor that was a  VN GRP A 304 4 bolt block, Crow cam, ported HQ stlye heads,1050 Holley, Bm 174 low blow supercharger, 3800 stall. We built a powerglide with a 6000 A1 stall,  Set up a 5.11 9"diff centre . She ran a best  10.7/125MPH with this set up. The plan was to use unported VN heads to see what we could do with them with the BM blower but no manifolds made at this time to suit  this  so i started to make a sheet alloy manifold to suit the VN heads & the blower when this was made we then changed to the VN unported heads & a bigger Crow cam Made up another set of zoomy pipes to suit the heads ran 10.3/ 131 mph but it was reving to high so then changed gears to 4.5  Ran the best of 9.96/ 134 MPH. Not bad for unported VN heads. We then went to a  Mag 8/71  (the BM was spining at its limit) with 2 x 660 centre holleys, Built up a set new coilovers for the front added an alloy radiator, 2 x 16" electric fans, a remote 60 Gmp water pump, set of  New MT 33x15 rear slicks  & 4.5 x 15 fronts. With the new setup off the trailer at the gazza Nationals it ran 10.03 /132 MPH first pass then a best of  9.8/140.00 MPH on the day but it hit the rev limter and it drop a vavle and span the balancer on that run. Thats what you get when you over rev a motor once to many times.  As now it looks like it needs to go to 4.11 gears to bring the revs down across the line & might try a smaller stall. but i need to find more  time to work on it. This is buy far not the best or fastest car out there but as i do all the work on this by myself  with most of it in house it just proves what you can do if you put your mind to it and what can you can do without spending $$ on parts that people tell you need as  As i  find this out along time ago most are willing take as much as you have for parts that you might not need  for the job but this does not mean that you use cheap no name parts as these will let you down. It comes down to you get what you pay for.

Now it can wait  till we get a new drag strip in VIC as we sure as hell need one as this state has gone to long without  a fuel car doing a 1/4 pass.
